Mar’Quavious Moss (b. Oct. 8, 2003) is a transfer safety from Division II West Georgia who plans on majoring in accounting. He arrived in time for spring practices and should comfortably reside in the two-deep at safety.
“Qua Moss is going to be a big part of this,” his defensive coordinator and position coach, Joe Klanderman, said last week in a press conference. “Qua Moss has been fantastic. We still have to sort that (depth chart) out.”
“Qua Moss came in at semester and is playing at a really high level right now for us,” head coach Chris Klieman said last month at Big 12 Media Days.
Moss actually got his collegiate start in 2023 at Dodge City Community College under head coach Terry Karg.
He had one tackle during his freshman year, which came against Coffeyville, and played at the same community college as current K-State long snapper Mason Olguin.
Last season, Moss transferred to West Georgia, where he started all 11 games for the Wolves, totaling 56 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, four pass breakups and a forced fumble. He tied for fourth in the United Athletic Conference in sacks, while he tied for 10th in tackles for loss.
Moss tallied multiple tackles in every game, including a career-high eight against North Alabama, while he had six apiece against Samford, Austin Peay, Southern Utah and Utah Tech. He registered a career-high two sacks at Abilene Christian — a game in which he forced a fumble — while he also had two tackles for loss against Shorter.
Moss broke up a pair of passes in the season opener against Samford and had one apiece at both Eastern Kentucky and Utah Tech. He returned seven punts on the year for 107 yards — including a 69-yard return against Shorter — in addition to two kickoffs for 42 yards.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking (a combination of all four recruiting services), Moss was the No. 120 player overall and the No. 9 safety in the transfer portal. He has three years left to play two seasons.
Moss prepped under head coach Tanner Glisson at Troup County High School in LaGrange, Georgia, where he totaled 24 tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack and an interception during his senior campaign, leading the Tigers to the state semifinals.
He earned first-team all-state honors as a wide receiver from the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association, while he was an honorable mention pick by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution after recording 877 yards and 11 touchdowns. Moss also competed in basketball in high school.
West Georgia was his only offer out of JUCO, but Moss selected K-State out of the transfer portal over interest and/or offers from Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, Houston, Nebraska, Tulane and Virginia.
