Tatsuro Taira became the first fighter to finish former UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno last night (Sat., Dec. 6, 2025) at UFC 323 LIVE on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las
Vegas, Nevada, but his victory comes with a little bit of controversy.
This flyweight matchup was a difficult one to predict on paper. While Moreno had a massive experience advantage with multiple title reigns, countless main event wars, and a resume chock-full of the best flyweights in the world, Taira represents the future of the 125-pound division. He’s one of the most skilled young contenders in any UFC weight class today and was going to be a stiff test for Moreno no matter what.
The first round was a solid back-and-forth affair featuring a tight triangle attempt by Moreno, but nothing that really stood out as a defining moment in the fight. That didn’t happen until the second round when Taira was able to gain back control on the canvas and unleashed heavy punches to the side of the head. Moreno wasn’t covering up that well, but it didn’t look like he was going out. The referee gave him about 10 seconds to change position before stepping in for the stoppage.
Moreno, who had never been stopped in his MMA career entering UFC 323, challenged the call and didn’t understand why the fight was waved off. You can check it out below and let us know your thoughts on this controversial flyweight finish!
