Welcome to The Linc, the daily Philadelphia Eagles links roundup at Bleeding Green Nation!
To answer the question posed in the headline: No. There isn’t. This team is cooked. Stick a fork in them.
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Defense??? – Iggles Blitz
The loss dropped the Eagles to 2-5. The play the Commanders and Giants over the next two weeks. Both teams will be coming off byes so that will make things as challenging as possible, especially this week with the Eagles coming off a Monday
night game. It will be tough to get Saquon ready for Sunday night. The season isn’t over because the NFC East is such a mess, but it is perilously close. And the defense disappearing the way they did is really discouraging. Is there any part of this team to believe in right now?
Roob’s Observations as hapless Eagles drop fifth straight with loss to Cowboys – NBCSP
The Eagles finally got some decent offense going, but the defense flat-out collapsed. That’s the kind of season it’s been. The defense was atrocious Monday night and honestly hasn’t been great for much of the year. Certainly not the elite unit we expected before the season. They began the day 26th in total yards allowed, 21st in rush defense, 27th in passing yards allowed, 31st in sacks, 26th in first downs allowed and 28th in points allowed. That was before kickoff. Then went out and got shredded by Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Javonte Williams and Company. It got so bad that Williams literally walked into the end zone untouched. This defense was supposed to carry the Eagles while the offense was figuring things out, but that hasn’t what happened. Considering expectations, the defense has been worse than the offense. They don’t get turnovers, they don’t get pressure, they don’t get sacks, they don’t stop the run, they don’t cover. The last few weeks they at least played well in the first half or first three quarters before falling apart in the fourth quarter. On Monday night, they just looked overmatched from the get-go.
Eagles-Cowboys final score: Philadelphia’s defense gives Dallas offense a get-right game – BGN
But Philadelphia’s defense was a problem throughout the night with the Cowboys scoring 38 points and producing 416 yards with 212 coming on the ground. The Eagles’ highly paid defensive line produced zero TFLs, zero sacks, and zero quarterback hits, allowing Dak Prescott to be entirely too comfortable. This was a get-right game for a Cowboys offense that only managed to muster 29 points combined over the past two weeks. The Eagles have now lost five games in a row for the first time since the 2016 season.
Analyzing Nick Sirianni’s job security as the Eagles’ head coach – PhillyVoice
Sirianni already cashed in one “I won a Super Bowl so I get to survive a terrible season” token after 2025. Was his Super Bowl season in 2024 worth two of those tokens? My guess… Nope. It’s probably going to take a dramatic turnaround and some postseason success for Sirianni to keep his job. Lurie likes Sirianni, so an in-season firing feels unlikely. Sirianni will at least get a chance at some sort of miraculous recovery. But obviously at the moment, any mention of the postseason would conjure up Jim Mora’s infamous “Playoffs?!” rant.
Eagles’ defense goes deafeningly silent during — and after — catastrophic collapse vs. Cowboys | The Early Bird – PHLY Eagles
The silence in the postgame locker room was deafening. The aftermath of the Eagles‘ 38-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on primetime gave way to the hush of a locker room that’s now lacking familiar voices and familiar goals. It was Saquon Barkley to address the team in the moments that preceded reporters swarming into the locker room, and Barkley who explained just how rare it has been for him to be the one called upon to do so with Jalen Hurts on injured reserve, Lane Johnson retired, and the hopes of this team rounding into form withering away. “I know that I gotta take more of a a role of being vocal, using my voice,” Barkley said. “I’m more of a lead-by-example type of guy, but it happens when you have guys banged up, and a guy like Jalen, who’s really basically the vocal leader. It’s gonna take me and Jordan [Mailata,] all of us to kind of fill that void.” The void was plenty big on Monday night. After turning in arguably the worst defensive performance of Vic Fangio’s three-year tenure, both Jalen Carter and Riq Woolen declined to address their role in the mishap with reporters afterward. “Nah, y’all have a good night,” Carter said. “You get home safe.”
Eagles-Cowboys Postgame: Eagles Defense EXPOSED — Brandon Graham & Vinny Curry React – PHLY Sports
The Eagles are now 2-5 with the season on the ropes following an ugly loss to the Dallas Cowboys in which the defense were barely able to muster a stop despite all the talent at their disposal. Tanner McKee threw a costly interception, though the running game looked its best of the season, and Makai Lemon scored his first career touchdown. Where do the Birds go from here? Super Bowl champions Brandon Graham and Vinny Curry discuss, along with Brandon Lee Gowton, Bo Wulf, Fran Duffy and EJ Smith.
NFL Week 7 Recap: Immediate fantasy football takeaways from Cowboys-Eagles – PFF
Unsurprisingly, Cooper was one of the team’s top receivers. It was encouraging to see Lemon emerge as the other primary option, considering how rarely he had played in two-receiver sets before this week. That suggests there’s at least a chance Lemon could become the Eagles‘ second receiver at some point this season. He still primarily lined up in the slot when Philadelphia used 11 personnel. Brown typically lined up as the third receiver in 11 personnel, while Elijah Moore rotated in occasionally and served as the primary wide receiver in 13 personnel. Britain Covey was the only other receiver on the roster, but he suffered a knee injury on a special teams play early in the game. It’s unclear whether he would have had a role on offense had he remained healthy. Lemon delivered the best game of his career, catching seven passes for 67 yards and a touchdown. He probably shouldn’t be a top waiver-wire priority, since several other rookie wide receivers have gotten off to better starts without needing injuries to earn additional playing time. However, if you’re looking for help at wide receiver and miss out on the other top rookie options, Lemon is a solid consolation prize.
Eagles’ Saquon Barkley says hamstring ‘great’ in return, not sweating back issue – ESPN
Eagles running back Saquon Barkley said his “hamstring came out great” and doesn’t believe his back issue will keep him out after a gutsy and highly efficient performance in Philadelphia’s 38-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night. Barkley was questionable entering the game because of a hamstring injury that sidelined him the previous two weeks. The Eagles tried to limit his carries, and that number dropped further when his back locked up as the game progressed. He played a total of nine snaps and touched the ball every time he was on the field, finishing with seven carries for 62 yards and a touchdown, and two receptions for 9 yards. Barkley is the first NFL starter in the past 20 seasons to play at least nine offensive snaps in a game and get a touch on all of them.
Spadaro: Can Eagles build upon the offense’s performance? – PhiladelphiaEagles.com
This is what Sean Mannion had in mind when he became the Eagles’ offensive coordinator and melded his scheme design with input from the rest of the coaching staff during those long spring days and nights of installation. The personnel packages. The formation variations. A passing game featuring crossing routes and catch-and-run gains. The quarterback getting the ball out quickly, and a running game led by a stout offensive line opening holes for Saquon Barkley. On a Monday night when the Dallas Cowboys were just too potent offensively and snuffed out a fourth-quarter drive with a diving interception takeaway to beat the Eagles 38-21, the silver lining was a true glimpse of what the offense can do. It is something the Eagles hope to build upon as the 2026 season enters Week 8 and the schedule takes them to Landover, Maryland on Sunday night for the second of three straight NFC East games. Philadelphia had three touchdown drives led by quarterback Tanner McKee, so let’s go into detail about them and what they tell us about the offense and the potential takeoff from here.
Packers bring up Mekhi Becton to the active roster, Jacob Monk to IR – Acme Packing Company
The Green Bay Packers announced on Monday that the team has placed offensive lineman Jacob Monk (quad) on the injured reserve, and that the Packers have replaced his roster spot with the call-up of Mekhi Becton, who was previously on the practice squad.
E.J. Jenkins: Added to Falcons’ practice squad – CBS Sports
Jenkins was waived by the Eagles on Thursday, though it didn’t take him long to find a new team, albeit as a member of the Falcons’ practice squad. The 27-year-old appeared in 16 regular-season games for Philadelphia in the last three seasons but has only one catch during his career.
Patriots re-sign edge rusher Jose Ramirez to practice squad, release offensive lineman – Pats Pulpit
Ramirez, 27, originally landed in head coach Mike Vrabel’s fold after being waived by the Philadelphia Eagles at the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline in August. The 6-foot-2, 252-pound preseason visitor to Foxborough earned a promotion in late September. He checked into two games while on the active roster and recorded one tackle across 30 snaps between defense and special teams. Upon clearing waivers, a return to the practice squad followed in October. So did the edge rusher’s release ahead of what became a 26-19 AFC East win over the New York Jets.
NY Giants vs. Texans: 15 winners, just one loser as Giants beat Houston in OT – Big Blue View
J.J. McCarthy — McCarthy was fantastic in his first start. He finished 20 of 28 for 252 yards, and never put the ball in harm’s way. His ability to get the ball down the field with velocity, his ability to move around in the pocket, and simply the threat of using him in the designed run game changes the Giants’ offense. The Giants had five pass plays of at least 20 yards, two of more than 40. Head coach John Harbaugh said after the game that starting him against the Texans was the “obvious choice.” McCarthy absolutely made the coach right.
Cowboys at Eagles Stock Report: Javonte Williams has a day – Blogging The Boys
Stock Down: Christian Parker. How is the defense still so consistently bad? And how are they committing so many penalties? Pre-snap penalties at that? I recognize that Christian Parker’s stock cannot go down any further. But what is his “get right” game? It wasn’t Jalon Daniels. It wasn’t Tanner McKee. What circumstances does it take for his group to look proper or dare I say even good?
Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders sue My Chemical Romance over brand infringement – SB Nation
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are taking legal action after they allege their brand was infringed upon by the band “My Chemical Romance.” The issue at the heart of the suit is the stage show My Chemical Romance is putting on as part of their “Long Live: The Black Parade” tour. On October 23 the band held a concert at the Hollywood Bowl, which utilized cheerleaders as part of the act — styled and designed to look exactly like the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
Commanders WR Antonio Williams snaps to increase with Terry McLaurin out – Hogs Haven
The question of who steps up with Terry McLaurin out for the season has been answered. Commanders head coach addressed that topic during his Monday afternoon press conference coming out of the bye. Quinn has had a bye week to ponder how to proceed after McLaurin suffered a season-ending knee injury during a Week 6 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He was asked if it raises Stefon Diggs’ activity. Not necessarily. That was his answer, in sum. The veteran receiver will keep doing his thing. We should see a whole lot more of third-round rookie Antonio Williams.
