Yesterday, The Athletic’s Gregg Evans and James Pearce published a report on Ibrahima Konaté and his ongoing contract situation with Liverpool FC.
And while there’s been no breakthrough on that front, the report states that:
- His teammates think he’s likely to stay
- The player wants a big increase on his current 150K/week salary
- There’s been a lack of interest from other clubs since Real Madrid ended their interest.
Konaté has reportedly rejected offers in the region of 200k/week previously, so I’m not too sure what the ceiling on this “big” increase is. I don’t think it’ll get much higher because new signings and the guys Liverpool seem to want to be building their club around aren’t earning
much more than that. Isak is at 260k, while Wirtz and Ekitike are on 200k. Something slightly higher than 200 seems like the sweet spot.
The situation looks good for Liverpool due to there being no other serious suitors at the moment. But things can change quickly in these situations. All it needs is for someone else to leave their club or get injured, clubs can get desperate and start throwing money around. Fingers crossed it all works out in Liverpool’s favour.
