Two Scott County High School students have filed a lawsuit alleging school officials attempted to conceal misconduct by basketball coach and teacher Sean Woods.
In the lawsuit, which names Woods and several other Scott County Schools officials, the students allege school officials failed to protect them from repeated sexual abuse, harassment, and assault by Woods while he was employed by Scott County Schools.
The complaint states Woods engaged in inappropriate physical contact with the students and
made sexual comments. The complaint also states that Woods invited the students to drink alcohol and attend parties, among multiple other allegations.
The lawsuit also alleges that school officials discouraged complaints and delayed or ignored mandatory reports to law enforcement, as well as allowing Woods to continue coaching and attending school events while under investigation.
A report from the state cabinet for health and family services dated March 17 identified Woods and seemed to suggest the state found some allegations against him to be substantiated. A Scott County parent appeared at a board of education meeting in December, where she claimed her daughter’s reports of inappropriate behavior were being ignored.
Woods resigned from his position at Scott County High School in March.
We would like to remind our readers that claims made in a lawsuit give only one side of the issues being litigated.
