In the New York Jets’ sixth game of the 2025 season, on a cool, partly cloudy early autumn afternoon in London, England, the Jets lost to the Denver Broncos, 13 – 11.
The first half saw the Jets put together
less than 30 yards of total offense and register just two first downs en route to a 10 – 6 halftime deficit. The Jets were outgained by more than 100 yards in the half. The only things keeping the game close were a Broncos fumble and a long Jets kickoff return.
The Jets opened the third quarter on offense. They put together their first sustained drive of the game, but the drive bogged down and the Jets had to settle for a short field goal. That made the score 10 – 9 in favor of the Broncos as the Jets were somehow hanging in a game they were being dominated everywhere but the scoreboard.
Late in the third quarter the Jets punted and pinned the Broncos inside their five-yard line. One play later the Broncos were called for a holding penalty in the end zone, resulting in a safety as the Jets took the lead in the game, 11 – 10.
The third quarter ended with the score still 11 – 10, Jets. The Jets defense was playing very well and somehow the Jets were hanging around, needing to hold the lead just one more quarter to get the Jets their first victory of the season.
Midway through the fourth quarter the Broncos put together their first sustained drive of the second half. With a little over five minutes left in the game the Broncos kicked a short field goal and they took the lead at 13 – 11. Now the Jets offense had to step up.
The Jets offense did not step up. They promptly went three and out, then punted.
The Jets defense forced a Broncos three and out and the Jets got the ball back in great field position with a chance to win the game.
With two minutes left the Jets had a second and three on the 50 yard line. They just needed another 10 to 15 yards to get Nick Folk a chance to win the game with a long field goal. They never got there. On fourth and eight from the 44 yard line Justin Fields was sacked, and the Broncos took over with no Jets timeouts left. The Broncos ran out the clock and the Jets lost the game.
The loss brings the Jets’ record to 0-6 to start the 2025 season. Now the Jets head home to prepare for a game against the Carolina Panthers next week. Perhaps they can get a victory over a struggling Panthers team.
