What is the story about?
Today
marked the tenth Philadelphia Eagles training camp practice ahead of the 2026 NFL season. Here’s what I observed down at the Jefferson Health Training Complex!
EAGLES PRACTICE NOTES
- The Eagles were in full pads again today.
- EAGLES INJURY REPORT:
- IN-PRACTICE INJURIES:
- CB Quinyon Mitchell went to the ground after getting tangled up with Hollywood Brown in WR vs. DB 1-on-1 drills. Mitchell was slow to get up and spent some time on one knee with a trainer. He did not participate in team drills but he also did not visit the medical tent or leave the practice field early, so, those are some encouraging signs.
- OG Landon Dickerson visited the medical tent at one point but returned to practice.
- CB Tariq Castro-Fields visited the medical tent at one point but returned to practice.
- ACTIVE/PHYSICALLY UNABLE TO PERFORM
- EDGE Jonathan Greenard (pectoral)
- Prior to practice, Vic Fangio said the veteran edge rusher won’t be back on the field “for another couple weeks, at least.”
- EDGE Jonathan Greenard (pectoral)
- DID NOT PARTICIPATE:
- WR DeVonta Smith (hamstring)
- Smith was doing some running prior to practice. Seems like he might be close to returning.
- WR Makai Lemon (hamstring)
- CB Jonathan Jones (shoulder
- Fangio said that Jones is expected to “miss some time.”
- WR Johnny Wilson (knee)
- WR Danny Gray (concussion)
- S Cole Wisniewski (hamstring)
- EDGE Keyshawn James-Newby (ankle)
- RB Dameon Pierce (hamstring)
- WR DeVonta Smith (hamstring)
- LIMITED PARTICIPATION
- LB Chance Campbell (groin)
- WR Britain Covey (hamstring)
- FULL PARTICIPATION
- OL Willie Lampkin left practice early on Monday but he seemed to be a full participant on Tuesday.
- RESERVE/INJURED
- RB Elijiah Mitchell
- RESERVE/NON-FOOTBALL INJURY
- S Tucker Large
- IN-PRACTICE INJURIES:
- UAR BERNARD UPDATE: I know our readers like to hear about this guy, so, let’s start with No. 93 today. For the second day in a row, Bernard caught my attention for using his power to drive his blocker back into the quarterback. Today it was John Ojukwu who was pushed back towards Dalton. As expected, Bernard doesn’t have an array of pass rush moves at this point in time. But it’s cool to see how he’s already using his pure strength to his advantage. Really interested to see how he fares in Saturday’s preseason game, assuming he even gets snaps.
- JALEN HURTS UPDATE: More good than bad from QB1 today.
- THE GOOD:
- Hurts’ flashiest throw was an under-center play-action deep shot to Elijah Moore for a touchdown. Andre’ Sam was trailing behind the receiver. Moore celebrated his score by punting the ball onto the roof of the Jefferson Health Training Complex.
- Hurts ripped a good completion to Dontayvion Wicks along the left sideline to beat Riq Woolen.
- Hurts connected with Darius Cooper on a comeback along the left sideline to beat Woolen.
- Hurts hit Dallas Goedert in stride over the middle for first down yardage.
- THE BAD:
- Hurts got picked off by Quinyon Mitchell in 1-on-1s.
- Hurts failed to connect on a deep shot to Quez Watkins down the right sideline.
- Hurts had a short pass to Moore get knocked down by Jakorian Bennett.
- Thought it was notable that Fangio said Hurts is having a good camp. And the DC also spoke to how the offense is truly new.
- FANGIO: “Jalen’s having a good camp. He looks faster. Obviously, we can’t touch him during practice. There’s always that debate whether you had him or not. There’s been a few times where our guys think they had him and they really didn’t. He’s moving good and I think he’s doing a nice job with the new offense. A lot’s been made about him, all these coordinators he’s been with, but it’s basically been the same offense every year. This is different. He’s done a great job with it.“
- THE GOOD:
- The Eagles worked on a lot of run plays today. It’s not always easy to gauge those reps since there’s no tackling. But Saquon Barkley seemed to have some good runs, including when the offense was backed up against their own goal line.
- 1-on-1 WR vs. DB notes: Wicks caught a pass around Woolen … Moore beat Cooper DeJean … Hollywood Brown dropped a ball with Mitchell covering him … Hurts to Darius Cooper beat Kelee Ringo … Mac McWilliams had a nice breakup … Covey shook DeJean on an out route to get open for a completion … Erik Ezukanma roasted Castro-Fields deep and had the ball in his hands for a would-be diving touchdown catch but the ball popped out as he hit the ground … McWilliams had tight downfield coverage against Moore, who failed to track the ball in the air for an over-the-shoulder catch … Darius Cooper beat Woolen on an out … Andy Dalton dropped a pass in the bucket to Samari Toure to beat DeJean … Dalton threw a deep touchdown to Quez Watkins with Jakorian Bennett trailing … Darius Cooper made a good catch with his hands extended away from his body to pluck the ball in the air and beat Ambry Thomas.
- You may have noticed that Woolen lost a number of reps in today’s practice. I don’t think he’s had a bad summer by any means but, on the whole, he hasn’t looked as good as he did in the spring. He’s been most susceptible to getting beat on out routes and comeback patterns along the sidelines.
- DAILY DARIUS COOPER IS AWESOME REMINDER: Well, I already touched on a lot of the catches he made today. But this is your reminder in case you forgot. Also, Hurts was asked about how good Cooper can eventually be … and he said that Cooper is pretty good already.
- While I was watching the WR vs. DB 1-on-1s, OL vs. DL 1-on-1s were taking place multiple fields away. I did see Tyler Steen stifle Ty Robinson. It also looked like Drew Kendall had some good battles with Moro Ojomo. BGN alumnus Jimmy Kempski shared some more observations from those reps since he was focused on them.
- Ojomo got the better of Kendall during the rep where Hurts completed the deep ball to Moore. Quick pressure for a potential “sack.”
- Jalyx Hunt looked really fast while aiming to chase down a rolling Hurts from behind. Hunt was also in the area
- With Mitchell sitting out of team drills (and the aforementioned Jonathan Jones also injured), Mac McWilliams saw first-team cornerback reps. McWilliams has had an uneven camp but today was a good day for the second-year defender. He didn’t look out of place with the starters. Fangio talked him up a bit prior to practice.
- Q: Mac McWilliams, he’s done some nice things these last couple days. How different is he this year, year two, versus last year? … FANGIO: A lot different. He’s just matured. I’ve had a way of phrasing it to him that I really can’t say here, but he’s done much better. It’s been more than just the last few days. It’s been pretty much all camp and in the short offseason.
- With the backup offense backed up against their own goal line, Byron Young quickly got up the middle into the backfield to “sack” Dalton for a safety. Speaking after practice, Young revealed that his weight is down from where it was last year. He’s had a nice offseason to cement himself as DT4.
- Eli Stowers made multiple short catches in the flat. Nothing flashy but better to see him more active than not at all.
- BACKUP QUARTERBACK BATTLE UPDATE: Today was Dalton’s day to be first up as QB2. Dalton apparently threw an interception to Cooper DeJean on the starting defense vs. backup offense field, which I didn’t see because I was watching the starting offense vs. backup defense field. Tanner McKee’s best throw was a well-timed anticipatory completion along the left sideline to a crossing Samari Toure to beat a diving Andre’ Sam. Dalton got off to a lead early in camp but McKee has been gaining on him recently. It’s still too close to call at the moment.
- Fred Johnson, not Markel Bell, worked at first-team right tackle again when Lane was not repping. Johnson also took some second-team right tackle reps with Bell working at second-team left tackle.
- During a situational drill, Bell reacted to A.J. Epenesa jumping early to draw a neutral zone infraction flag. Good job by the rookie.
- Jake Elliott was 6/6 on his kicks today. He’s now up to 25/26 in camp. Good stuff! Let’s see if he can keep it up.
- Darius Cooper, Tank Bigsby, Britain Covey, and Brandon Hayes were lined up deep to return kicks during special teams drills. Makai Lemon and Dameon Pierce, who aren’t practicing, also stood in the area.
- I probably should’ve mentioned this earlier in camp but I’m a bucket hat guy now for these practices. And not just because I stand in solidarity with Tanner McKee. I’m finding that the bucket hat is just much superior option to a regular baseball cap in terms of shade coverage and thus feeling cooler. Give it a try if you haven’t already.
- Question for you ahead of next week’s Eagles-Patriots joint training camp practices: I’m planning on staying in Providence, Rhode Island … which is just about a 25 minute drive away from the Pats’ headquarters in Foxborough, Massachusetts. It’s closer than Boston, which I’ve already visited plenty. Anyone have any recommendations for Providence? Food, drinks, things to do? Will read your suggestions in the comment section below.
UP NEXT: The Eagles have a walkthrough closed to media access on Wednesday. They’ll return to practice on Thursday morning at 10:00 AM Eastern. Then it’ll be another walkthrough on Friday prior to Saturday night’s preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.
