The Dallas Cowboys head into the 2025 regular-season finale against the New York Giants with 20 players set to hit free agency after the completion of the game. This we know. But, what we don’t know is which players could be joining them who are still under contract that may no longer be in the Cowboys future plans for whatever reason.
Today, we shine the light on a few veteran players who could be playing their last game with the Dallas Cowboys, even though they remain under contract. Whether it’s
based on performance, money, or a little bit of both this Week 18 matchup with the Giants could very well be their last to suit up for the Cowboys.
CB Trevon Diggs
It’s become increasingly obvious Trevon Diggs’ time with the Cowboys is quickly coming to an end. His lack of availability due to reoccurring injuries, the way he’s approached rehab, and his regression in play has created a fractured relationship that seems to be beyond repair between Diggs and the Cowboys organization. The season finale against the New York Giants is almost certain to be the last we see No. 7 in a Cowboys uniform. His release will be based just as much on performance as it is on the financial aspect of it.
RT Terence Steele
Unless the Cowboys can convince Terence Steele to restructure his contract to make it a little more “team friendly”, he could find himself playing elsewhere in 2026. Although he’s an above-average run blocker, he is somewhat of a liability in pass protection. The Cowboys are currently experimenting with reshuffling their OL by starting Tyler Smith at LT the last few games this season and that could lead to former first-round pick Tyler Guyton kicking over to RT. For these reasons, No. 78 could be playing his last game for the Cowboys this week.
DT Kenny Clark
Could Kenny Clark be one and done in Dallas? It’s certainly possible after being acquired as part of the Micah Parsons trade. By releasing him Dallas can save about $21.5 million against the salary-cap in 2026, which seems possible considering he didn’t quite make the impact that was expected. There is a chance though the Cowboys attempt to extend his contract to lower his cap hit if they wanted to keep him around moving forward. With that decision hanging in the air right now though, the season finale might be the last time we see him in Dallas.
