A relative walk in the park for the Yankees on Saturday afternoon hit a bump in the road in the fifth inning. Shortly after New York took a 6-0 lead over Baltimore, lefty Grant Wolfram hit Jazz Chisholm
Jr. with a 96.8-mph sinker, hitting his left forearm a little below the wrist.
Chisholm was clearly in pain and quickly went over to the Yankees’ dugout to be checked by the trainers. As a precautionary measure, José Caballero came in to replace Chisholm on the basepaths (and defensively at second base). We’ll provide updates as they come across, but the Yankees are obviously hoping that their All-Star infielder is OK and didn’t suffer any breaks.
Chisholm posted his first career 30/30 season in 2025, batting .243/.333/.482 with 31 homers and 31 stolen bases, tallying over 4.4 fWAR. Barring a serious injury, he’s expected to hold down the keystone in the playoffs. If he has to miss any time, then Caballero will likely hold down the position with Anthony Volpe remaining at shortstop.
Update
Phew. Ideally, the CT scans will be clear as well, but the X-rays being negative on Chisholm’s arm is clearly a good sign.
