New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough spoke with reporters in the locker room following minicamp practice recently, expressing his belief that the work put in throughout the offseason is already paying dividends.
Shough said he has made noticeable strides physically and mentally since the conclusion of his rookie season. He revealed that he is entering training camp in arguably the best shape of his career.
“It’s been amazing. I’ve been able to put on six pounds of muscle, been able to drop my
body fat. You’re getting the whole offseason underneath your belt, and I just feel comfortable. Obviously, there’s new things every single day from an install perspective, but it’s more review, and how can we kind of get on the same page with all these new guys? That’s going to be the challenge going into training camp, is that sense of urgency with Olave, with Tyson, with Vele, with Polk, and all of our guys, and how can we just kind of take it to the next level,” said Shough.
One of the connections already taking shape is with first-round rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson. According to Shough, the two have spent plenty of time together away from the facility, helping build a relationship that could translate onto the field.
“We are hanging out every other day,” Shough said. “We’re hanging out watching movies, watching the NBA Finals, coming over having food together. He’s such a great guy.”
While training camp will provide the first true test, Shough’s comments suggest the groundwork is already being laid both on and off the field with one of his new weapons.
With improved conditioning and growing chemistry with his teammates, Shough appears ready to take the next step heading into his sophomore season.
