MVP is trying to promote a fight card stacked with multiple UFC veterans, like Ronda Rousey, Francis Ngannou, and Nate Diaz.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t have access to any of the footage from their UFC careers, so you’re left with a shaky cam, quick edits, and studio sparring. Add some hip music and a throaty narrator and voila, instant trailer. To be fair, it’s certainly an improvement over the AI slop being peddled by UFC
.“Blink…and you bleed,” Netflix wrote on Instagram, perhaps co-promoting Opera
by Dario Argento.
I think most MMA fans are going to watch “Rousey vs. Carano” because it features a bunch of fan-friendly fights and only costs a subscription to Netflix, so I’m not gonna get too hung up on the pre-fight promotion. Let’s just hope the network has exorcised the ghosts of streaming past.
“It’s very, very needed in the sport,” MVP co-owner Jake Paul told Complex News about the creation of MVP MMA. “I think it’s been a monopoly for so long, run by the UFC, and the fighters haven’t had another place to go where they get the exposure and more pay. And so MVP MMA is providing that with some of the biggest names, and obviously, the biggest streaming platform. So, it’s really a monumental shift in the timeline for MMA fighters, and for MMA fans. Because we want to provide the best and the biggest fights, and go head-to-head with the big dogs. It’s just a very exciting time for everyone because of that.”
Rousey vs. Carano is set for May 16 at Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
