The bye week has arrived for the Cleveland Browns, and it came at a much-needed time. After a challenging 2-6 start, the team needs some time to regroup and consider how they want to attack the rest of
this season. It will be a good opportunity for this group to rest and get healthy for when the team returns after the break to face the New York Jets.
Improve Discipline and Effort
The most recent loss to the New England Patriots exposed many of the Browns’ offensive struggles. There appears to be a lack of effort coming from multiple players on that side of the ball. Jerry Jeudy has struggled with drops this season, but fans have also questioned his general laziness over the past few weeks. Wide receiver Isaiah Bond has also struggled to connect with Dillon Gabriel and has not added much to the Cleveland offense.
Defensive Consistency
The defense has helped keep this team competitive in many games, but they have also shown moments of weakness. It is difficult to put so much pressure on the defense since so much has been asked of them, but there have been some major breakdowns in the secondary. They will need to use the bye week to work on their communication and clean up those broken coverages.
Coaching Adjustments
Patriots’ head coach called out the Browns’ coaching staff for their play-calling, stating, “When their gimmick plays ran out, we played pretty good defense.” This has been a common criticism about the Cleveland offense this season, and the bye week would be a great opportunity to make some adjustments to the game plan. The offense has become quite predictable, and it would benefit them to be more flexible and make in-game adjustments.
