With the first of February drawing to a close, we’re now in the nether region between the winter and summer transfer windows, where news and rumors go to die. While it won’t be long before summer transfer rumors trickle in, we’re left to twiddle our thumbs, waiting for Roma to do something we love but will eventually come to hate, or, more likely, something we immediately hate but grow to begrudgingly accept. After all, if Gian Piero Gasperini can’t make peace with Roma’s decision-making, how can we?
But let’s leave the consternation for another day and focus on this weeks news.
Robino Vaz Suffers Calf Injury
While Roma’s €22 million signing from Marseille hasn’t enjoyed the same early success as Malen, he looks like an intriguing prospect for the future, with ideal size and speed for the position. Unfortunately, we may have to wait several weeks for an extended look at the 18-year-old French center-forward after he tore a muscle in his left calf. According to reports, Vaz is expected to miss approximately three weeks as he recovers from his first Trigoria-related setback, a badge of honor for any new Giallorossi player!
Devis Vasquez Joins Besiktas
When you play behind a keeper as talented as Mile Svilar, match time is hard to come by. Signed on a free transfer from Milan over the summer, Vasquez never featured for Roma and will have to wait even longer to don the giallo e rosso as he’s been loaned to Besiktas for the remainder of the season.
Roma Working on New Deals for Cristante and Mancini
We may never see a pair of contract renewals as controversial as these, but according to reports in Italy, the club is working on contract extensions for Bryan Cristante and Gianluca Mancini. Speaking to Tuttosport, Giuseppe Riso, who manages both players, claims the renewals are nearing completion and lack only the final signatures.
We’ll dive into these possible extensions later this weekend, but they’re sure to produce a range of reactions and emitons from Roma supporters.
Could Francesco Totti Return to Roma?
With Claudio Ranieri suggesting Totti’s possible return to the Roma fold, everyone from Radja Nainggolan to Walter Sabatini has given their two cents on this potential reunion. While Ranieri was a little light on specifics, saying simply that the club was thinking about it, the concern centers on Totti’s role: Would he have a legitimate change-making role, or would he merely be a figurehead?
Totti is sacrosanct to Roma fans, so the Friedkins better approach this cautiously.
