The Yankees had a bit of a frustrating end to their homestand over the weekend. Having taken the opening game of the series against the Reds, they were held in check in both of the next two, allowing Cincinnati to take the series. However, despite their reputation, the Yankees have actually had a pretty decent June, all things considered. Tonight, they’ll look to continue that as they head back out on the road.
The Yankees are in Detroit to open a series against the Tigers, Detroit in the midst of
a highly disappointing season, near the AL Central cellar despite two prior playoff appearances, making a notable signing (who we’ll see tonight), and having the two-time reigning AL Cy Young in Tarik Skubal. However, they still feature several good players and could add to the recent annoyance if the Yankees aren’t ready to go.
Having rearranged the rotation a bit last week, Gerrit Cole will get back on the mound tonight. By all accounts, he was skipped yesterday just to work in an extra day of rest for everyone amid a stretch without an off day. He is coming off a solid outing against the White Sox, having struggled from the first time since returning from Tommy John in the start before that.
Elsewhere in the lineup, the Yankees are going with a variation of the lefty-facing lineup, including Amed Rosario getting a chance in the lead-off spot.
Said lefty will be Framber Valdez for the Tigers. Valdez has been a bit up and down after coming to Detroit this past offseason. He is coming off an up, though, as he held his former Astros’ teammates to one unearned run in six innings in his last game.
Here’s everything you need to know on how to catch the action, and we hope you’ll come join us in the game thread!
