Ronda Rousey made short work of Gina Carano, finishing the women’s MMA pioneer in just 17 seconds with her patented armbar (watch the highlights here). We’d say “Rowdy” is back, but the star made it clear coming into this fight that this is a one-and-done affair.
That leaves more worthy opponents like Amanda Nunes, Kayla Harrison, and Cris Cyborg with little to do but laugh about the clear money grab they just witnessed. Cyborg has been hunting a fight with Rousey for as long as Ronda has been a name
in the sport, but a bout never materialized. She threw a call out Rousey’s way after seeing her win in person at the Intuit dome, but didn’t even seem to seriously consider it would happen.
“What do you guys think?” Cyborg said when asked how she’d handle Rousey. “Same day, both together. I’m ready, let’s do it.”
There was no surprise to how Ronda won as far as Cris was concerned.
“I already knew this. Gina was 17 years without fighting. This was the fight that Ronda Rousey chose,” she said.
As for what’s next for Cyborg, she has just a few fights left in combat sports before retiring, and it seems like a PFL championship defense is next.
“I am ready for my next fight,” Cyborg said. “It’s going to be a real fight for the title, a defense.”
