The first half of the New York Jets game against the New Orleans Saints is in the books, and the Jets are trailing the Saints, 9 – 6 in one of the most boring games of the season.
The game opened with the
Jets on defense, and they quickly experienced a Festivus miracle. On the second play of the game the Jets forced and recovered a Saints fumble. It was just the fourth turnover forced by the Jets this season.
The Jets took over on offense deep in Saints territory and moved the ball inside the Saints 15 yard line. The drive bogged down and the Jets had to settle for a short Nick Folk field goal and an early 3 – 0 Jets lead.
Austin McNamara kicked the ball short of the landing zone on the ensuing kickoff, giving the Saints a short field at their own 40 yard line to start their next drive. The Saints then put together a short drive culminating in a field goal, tying the score at 3 – 3.
After the Jets went nowhere on their next drive, the Saints put together another short drive ending in a field goal and a 6 – 3 Saints lead.
The Jets answered with a short field goal drive to tie the score at 6 – 6 early in the second quarter as the teams traded field goals to start the game.
On the ensuing Saints drive the Jets stopped the Saints on fourth down, giving the Jets offense great field position in Saints territory. Unfortunately, Brady Cook led the Jets on a backwards drive, squandering their field position and leaving the game tied midway through the second quarter.
The Saints then put together yet another drive for a field goal as neither team seemed capable of running an effective red zone offense. With less than two minutes remaining in the first half the Saints held a 9 – 6 lead.
The Saints got the ball back one more time as the Jets offense went nowhere. With time expiring the Saints lined up for a 61 yard field goal attempt. It missed badly.
The Jets go into the locker room trailing the Saints by three points.
