Hansi Flick may just have found another La Masia gem he wants to use in the first-team ahead of the start of the new 2026-27 La Liga campaign.
Midfielder Brian Farinas had been set to leave the club and join Girona but Flick has put a stop to the transfer after being impressed by the 20-year-old in pre-season training.
According to Diario Sport, Flick has asked Deco to stop any negotiations about his future until he’s had a chance to check on him properly during pre-season.
Flick has been “pleasantly
surprised” by Farinas so far and wants to give the youngster the chance to show what he can do before a final decision is made on where he plays his football next season.
Farinas impressed last season at Barcelona Atletic but the feeling is he’s now ready for another challenge. The big question now is whether that’s with Flick’s Barcelona or elsewhere.
Barcelona Atletic manager Juliano Belletti has been full or praise for Farinas, saying last year: “For me, Fariñas is not a surprise, he can play at 6, 8 and 10 and has a character that contagious to the team; he’s in great physical shape, it shows. And his self-confidence is very high. The team and I are taking advantage of that. Because he has a lot of talent, but he also works hard without the ball.”
The youngster certainly has a big opportunity now after catching Flick’s eye. His chances may also have been helped by news that Frenkie de Jong is facing several months out with a knee injury.
