Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson may not be tipping his hand on his starting quarterback this Sunday against the New York Jets, but a Friday night report may have shed some light on the situation. Ian Rapoport, ESPN and NFL Network’s national insider, believes he knows what the Bears are doing.
“My understanding is that Tyson Bagent took the majority of the first-team reps at practice this week,” Rapoport said. “While Ben Johnson has not yet named a starter, the expectation is that the backup
quarterback, Tyson Bagent, is the starter on Sunday.”
“We’ll see what the Bears end up doing, but all signs point to Tyson Bagent getting he start this week for Chicago.”
With 59% of the vote, our fans also believe Bagent will get the nod on Sunday against the Jets.
Our partners at FanDuel Sportsbook share that sentiment because they only offer a passing-yards prop bet for Bagent, not Case Keenum.
Bagent’s passing-yards over/under is 199.5 (-114). If you think he’ll go over 1.5 passing touchdowns, you can get that at +136, and if you think he’ll be under 1.5 TDs, that’s at -182.
Keenum put up 247 yards last week on Monday night, so if you think Bagent will beat that, FanDuel had an over 250 yards option at +250.
What are your thoughts on the Bagent props? Do you think he’ll go over 2 touchdowns? What about his passing yards? Let us know in the comment section.
We had a couple of other Reacts polls this week at Windy City Gridiron, and there was a national question on the SB Nation main NFL page that may interest Bears fans too.
There was some buzz around a Bagent trade this offseason, and if he plays well on Sunday, that could start up again. I’m sure the Bears have a price they’d consider, but that wouldn’t be a day three pick.
Caleb Williams is an ascending superstar.
Tyson Bagent may have only 4 starts in his NFL career, but he plays with the poise of a much more experienced player, and the Bears gave him a contract extension for a reason. Ben Johnson believes in him, and I’m excited to see him play on Sunday.
Case Keenum is a crafty veteran who has won a game as a starter for seven different franchises, tying Ryan Fitzpatrick for the most ever.
I’ve looked at other QB rooms across the NFL, and from 1-3, I don’t see any better.
Chicago’s strong quarterback room is a big reason 94% of our fans think the Bears are heading in the right direction,
