Last week the AP Poll had a rarity. Purdue received more first palce votes than No. 1 Houston, but enough writers dropped the Boilermakers far enough back (some as far down as 10th) for committing the crime
of (checks notes) trailing Oakland briefly in the second half while one of our All-Americans was not playing.
Oh, and we lost a meaningless exhibition, which is SOP for Purdue of late.
Anyway,t he seven point win over No. 8 Alabama and a comfortable home win over an Akron team that has played in the last two NCAA Tournaments was enough to move Purdue back to No. 1 this week.
Others receiving votes:
San Diego St. 71, Indiana 65, Vanderbilt 57, Oregon 28, Ohio St. 21, Southern Cal 16, Georgetown 16, Creighton 12, Baylor 11, Saint Mary’s 8, Missouri 7, Mississippi 5, Iowa 3, Utah St. 2, Georgia 2, Virginia 1, Virginia Tech 1, Stanford 1, Kansas St 1.
