Ohio State is off to a stellar start in the 2028 recruiting class.
Top offensive weapons already locked in thanks to quarterback Christopher Vargas, running back Elijah Newman-Hall and of course receiver Jett Harrison, the Buckeyes have the second-ranked class in the nation and zero sign of slowing down.
Plenty of other top targets out there keeping Ohio State at the forefront of their recruitments, it’s more likely than not that Ryan Day and his staff will sign once again one of if not the best class
overall in the upcoming cycle.
Specifically at wide receiver, Cortez Hankton has the Buckeyes in prime position for multiple top guys at the spot. That includes Georgia native John Matthews. A recent offer from this Ohio State staff, Matthews received the good news from the Buckeyes in late July, and he’s quickly kept them near the top of his list of consideration.
A 6-foot, 175 pound athlete, Matthews may not have the typical ranking Ohio State recruiting followers are used to seeing, but offers from the likes of Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, and others show the caliver of player he truly is. With that, the No. 388 player nationally and 56th best receiver per the 247Sports Composite is likely due a status update with the attention he is commanding.
Rumored to be keeping Ohio State and Florida in the lead, the Buckeyes battling the Gators is nothing they’re not already used to doing. Maybe a situation where it’s who wants in first, Ohio State has been linked for a while now to North Carolina five-star Braylon Clark and likely to bring in three at he position in 2028, first come first serve may be the strategy.
Either way, it’s good to be a Buckeye.
