Mitch Wishnowsky officially reverted to the New England Patriots’ practice squad on Monday after serving as a standard elevation for the home opener at Gillette Stadium.
Sunday’s 20-3 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers marked the second appearance in as many weeks for the veteran punter.
Wishnowsky, 34, was called upon for four punts during his latest call-up. The right-footed specialist averaged 46.3 yards per punt with a net of 41.0 yards per. Along the way arrived a long of 54 yards and one effort
downed inside the opposing 20-yard line. Holding duties were also part of the afternoon as kicker Andy Borregales went 2-of-3 on field goals and 2-of-2 on extra points.
With incumbent punter Bryce Baringer beginning the regular season on injured reserve, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Wishnowsky signed to the practice squad in Foxborough at its formation. He has since seen 16 snaps on special teams, including no touchbacks, and previously posted 44.3 yards per punt in his 2026 debut versus All-Pro Seattle Seahawks returner Rashid Shaheed.
Selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft at No. 110 overall, Wishnowsky spent six years with the San Francisco 49ers before making stops with the Washington Commanders and Buffalo Bills. Among the league’s 53-man roster cuts in August, the former Ray Guy Award winner by way of Australia, Santa Barbara City College and the University of Utah stands 107 games in. His career has spanned 352 punts for 16,182 yards and a long of 74, plus 236 kickoffs.
For Wishnowsky, a third and final standard elevation remains this campaign before a move to the active roster would be required to take the field.
The Jacksonville Jaguars host the 2025 AFC champions next Sunday at EverBank Stadium. Kickoff between the 1-1 sides is set for 1 p.m. ET.
