Mike Macdonald has the Seattle Seahawks right where fans dreamed they would be when he was hired two years ago, and that is playing at home in the postseason.
However, in spite of what is all but certain to be an absolutely insane atmosphere at Lumen Field on Saturday when the San Francisco 49ers come to town with a trip to the NFC Championship Game on the line, the injury bug appears to have reared its head enough that the Seahawks have altered their game prep, at least according to a report from
Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Per Schefter, that altered game prep involves backup quarterback Drew Lock taking reps at quarterback the last two days because Sam Darnold and the team have not tested his oblique by actually throwing passes.
This report backs up the suspicions raised by Macdonald opting not to answer when Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune inquired as to whether or not Darnold had thrown during the Seahawks final walkthrough Friday ahead of the divisional round matchup.
Of course, the fact that Lock had taken practice reps has been known since offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak shared that earlier in the week.
Given Darnold’s proclamation earlier in the week that he expects to play and Macdonald’s confidence that Darnold will start, combined with this report it seems to make one thing clear: fans should expect to see a lot of Ken Walker and Zach Charbonnet as the team relies on the offensive line to bulldoze a weak 49ers front seven and lead the team to victory on the ground.
Which means the ability to advance to the NFC Conference Championship game will rely heavily on the most debated Seahawks player of the 2025 season.
