The Seahawks come to a fitting fork in the road on Thursday Night Football this week. This team will see a chance to avenge a close loss against a division rival perfectly dovetail with the opportunity
to stake claim to the #1 seed in the NFC against a Super Bowl contender.
With such weighty implications set for this grudge match, Seattle is set to feature some of their established stars in each phase of the game as captains. The three who will serve include wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba on offense, linebacker Ernest Jones IV on defense and kicker Jason Myers (the man of the hour) for the special teams.
This will be Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s 3rd time as a captain this season, amid a breakout superstar year. JSN was on a historic pace for a good portion of the season, and while he has cooled a bit in recent weeks, he still leads all players by a healthy margin with his 1,541 receiving yards.
The elephant in the room feels like Sam Darnold’s turnover struggles against the LA Rams over the last couple of years (in Minnesota and Seattle) … but maybe it’s the right thing to focus on and emphasize the world-beating pieces that you do have. Smith-Njigba is the type of player who can give Same every opportunity to have a statement game.
Ernest Jones IV is tied for 2nd in the NFL in interceptions and is the rugged leader of a surprisingly strong and deep position group in Seattle. Jones is a 4-time captain for the 2025 Seahawks, a former scorned employee of the Los Angeles Rams and will look to help shut down a potent run game.
Fans will hope that Jason Myers back doesn’t hurt after he absolutely carried the team on it against Phillip Rivers and the feisty Colts this past weekend. This is, surprisingly, Myers’ first time as a captain this year, but it couldn’t have come with more perfect timing. He is on pace to break David Akers’ record for field goals in a season, is currently scorching hot and will have a chance to make things right after missing a 61-yard potential game-winner in the last matchup with the Rams.
