Sixers head coach Nick Nurse is away from the team to attend the funeral services of his brother, Steve, who died unexpectedly last week.
Gina Mizell of The Inquirer was the first to report the news:
“Steve Nurse, 62, died last Wednesday, the day before Game 6 of the Sixers’ first-round series win over the Boston Celtics. Nick Nurse left New York City following his team’s Game 1 loss to the Knicks Monday night to travel to his hometown of Carroll, Iowa, for the services. The coach expects to rejoin
the Sixers in New York later Tuesday.
The Sixers held a film session Tuesday afternoon but did not practice in preparation for Wednesday’s Game 2 at Madison Square Garden. Game 3 is Friday at Xfinity Mobile Arena.”
Best wishes to Nick Nurse and his family as they navigate this difficult time.
