The Pittsburgh Steelers are not hiding their plans to add to their receiver room this offseason. The team acquired Michael Pittman Jr. from the Indianapolis Colts on March 9th, but have continued to meet with numerous receiver prospects ahead of next month’s NFL Draft in Pittsburgh.
Texas Tech wide receiver Caleb Douglas just became the latest such prospect to talk about the interest the Steelers have shown in him during the pre-draft process.
In an interview with Justin Melo of Sports Illustrated,
Douglas mentioned that the Steelers were the team he had a formal interview with at the combine.
“I had a formal interview at the NFL Combine with the Pittsburgh Steelers. I met on Zoom with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Miami Dolphins, to name just a few. I’ve had meetings with the Dallas Cowboys, Carolina Panthers, and Jacksonville Jaguars.”
It’s important to note that a formal interview at the combine isn’t quite as important as a top-30 visit, but it is still very notable. The Steelers were the only team that Douglas mentioned by name that he had formally met with, indicating that the Steelers might value him a bit higher than most. Douglas has a top-30 visit with the Los Angeles Chargers scheduled for this week.
Douglas is currently projected as a day three prospect. The 6-foot-3 receiver ran a blazing 4.39 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. Pittsburgh has been drawn to receivers who stand over six feet tall and have impressive athletic numbers, just take DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr., for example. After transferring to Texas Tech in 2024, Douglas posted over 1700 receiving yards and caught 13 touchdowns in two seasons with the Red Raiders.
The Steelers have done their homework on every type of receiver in this class, even hosting a few other day three receiver prospects on top-30 visits in recent weeks. Do not be surprised if Douglas is next, and certainly don’t be shocked to see the Steelers add to their receiver room this April.
