Just six days after landing the biggest transfer in the Mark Pope era, the Kentucky Wildcats just got the highest-ranked high school commitment under Pope’s watch.
On Monday, it was Iowa State transfer Milan Momcilovic, ranked as high as No. 1 overall in ESPN’s transfer portal rankings, who committed to the Wildcats.
Then on Sunday, it was Ryan Hampton, ranked as high as No. 6 overall in the 2027 high school recruiting class, who announced his pledge to Kentucky. Hampton made his commitment while taking
his official visit to Lexington.
A 6-foot-6 native of Texas, Hampton plays for DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida. He holds additional scholarship offers from Kansas, Tennessee, LSU, Indiana, Texas, Villanova, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Auburn, Missouri, and NC State, among others.
Hampton is ranked No. 6 overall by 247 Sports and Rivals. Kentucky’s previously highest-ranked recruiting win in the high school ranks was Jasper Johnson, who was No. 10 overall when he committed to the Wildcats.
Between Hampton and Momcilovic, this may very well prove to be one of the biggest weeks in the Mark Pope era of Kentucky Basketball.
