Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade was mentioned as a potential target for Borussia Dortmund during the World Cup, but the latest update suggests the transfer rumors have yet to develop into anything concrete.
The Magpies appear set to keep hold of Woltemade despite the speculation linking the Germany international with a return to the Bundesliga.
According to Chronicle Live’s Lee Ryder, neither Newcastle nor Woltemade’s representatives have received any contact from Borussia Dortmund despite
reports in Germany linking the 24-year-old with a move.
Of course, if this rings a bell, that’s reasonable following the weeks-long saga linking Bruno to Arsenal, with contact reportedly taking place between intermediaries but no actual discussions between clubs.
On this one, Ryder reports that Woltemade remains fully focused on Newcastle and is preparing to report back for the team’s pre-season once his extended post-World Cup break comes to an end.
The report adds that the €82 million (£69 million) Magpies signing is determined to fight for his place after a mixed debut season in which he featured in several different attacking and midfield roles.
All the way back in May, TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey reported that Woltemade was considering a return to Germany after becoming frustrated with his role at Newcastle, with Borussia Dortmund among several clubs monitoring his situation.
However, Ryder’s latest update paints a different picture, stating there has been no transfer approach and no contact with the player’s camp despite the recent speculation.
Before the World Cup, Woltemade also made clear he believes his best position is in attack.
“I’m an ambitious person and always want to reach my full potential. That’s easiest to do in attack,” Woltemade said. “But at Newcastle, I filled in at other positions, even as a defensive midfielder.”
Even though Woltemade lost Eddie Howe’s trust late last season, he’s expected to lead the forward line along with fellow 2025 acquisition Yoane Wissa heading into the 2026-27 campaign.
