Good morning, Chargers fans!
On Wednesday, the Bolts released their first unofficial depth chart ahead of their season opener against the Cardinals. Overall, there aren’t many surprises to be had, but here are some of the more intriguing takeaways:
- Tight Oronde Gadsden II is listed behind both Charlie Kolar and David Njoku
- Kayode Awosika and Trey Pipkins are listed as co-Starters at left guard
- Del’Shawn Phillips is listed as the starter at linebacker next to Daiyan Henley while Denzel Perryman is on IR
- Derius Davis remains the team’s starter at both punt (backup is Brenen Thompson) and kick returns (Keaton Mitchell)
Despite Pipkins being listed alongside Awosika, I’d expect the latter to be the starter in Week One with a short-ish leash if he does not perform well out of the gate.
Phillips being named a starter is interesting but it’s more than likely that him, Troy
Dye, and Marlowe Wax will see a rotation while also spelling Henley when needed.
Gadsden will still see plenty of snaps at tight end as McDaniel is expected to run plenty of multi-TE sets this season given how deep the position is this year.
Are there any other notable takeaways from this depth chart that I missed? Let me know in the comments below!
