Per reporting from Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas, Manchester United and Manchester City have entered the race to sign Ghanaian attacker Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, with City thought to be leading the race at the moment.
Notably, Thomas lists United, City, and Spurs but doesn’t mention Liverpool among the suitors, after weeks of Liverpool and Semenyo links. Perhaps the links between Liverpool and the player are starting to cool, and the winds have shifted in City’s direction. The Independent’s Miguel Delaney also reported on United’s interest in Semenyo, with Ruben Amorim wanting to make sure of his tactical versatility and play him at wing-back.
Personally, I find the thought of Semenyo, coming off his best season as an attacker, angling for a move to a big club and wanted by perennial title contenders Manchester City and Liverpool, thinking, “Yeah, I’m going to go play wing-back at United,” incredibly hilarious. But hey, maybe I’m wrong, and United are really going to ignore their midfield and defensive issues to sign an attacker to play at wing-back!
