Lan Larison and Mitch Wishnowsky reverted to the New England Patriots’ practice squad on Thursday after having a hand in the 2026 season opener.
The running back and punter served as standard elevations for what became a 13-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field.
Larison, 24, made his NFL debut as part of a backfield that included starter Rhamondre Stevenson and recent trade acquisition Corey Kiner. With TreVeyon Henderson ruled out due to an ankle injury, the UC Davis product saw three snaps
on offense and six snaps on special teams in the Super Bowl LX rematch. Converting one first down, he caught a pair of passes for nine yards and averaged 24.5 yards per kickoff return.
Signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2025, Larison redshirted his rookie year on injured reserve after suffering a foot injury. He proceeded to score his second preseason touchdown last month. And at the 53-man roster deadline, the 5-foot-11, 209-pound running back was waived and retained on the initial practice squad after going unclaimed.
Wishnowsky, 34, joined New England’s practice squad at its formation as incumbent Bryce Baringer landed on injured reserve to begin the regular season. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound veteran specialist soon served as the holder and punter in the Pacific Northwest alongside 2025 draft picks in long snapper Julian Ashby and kicker Andy Borregales. From there, he played a part in a 50-yard field goal while averaging 44.3 yards per punt and 42.0 net yards per punt across four opportunities. A trio of inside-the-20 efforts and no touchbacks were notched against past Pro Bowl and All-Pro returner Rashid Shaheed.
Entering the NFL in the fourth round of the 2019 class at No. 110 overall, Wishnowsky spent six years with the San Francisco 49ers before stints with the Washington Commanders and Buffalo Bills. Released at the latest cutdown deadline, the former Ray Guy Award winner by way of Australia, Santa Barbara City College and the University of Utah now stands 106 games into his career.
Two standard call-ups remain for the two reversions before an official move to the active roster would be required to take the field.
In Week 2, the Pittsburgh Steelers will visit Gillette Stadium. The home opener is set for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 20.
