Saimon Oliveira made the featherweight limit for his Luan Lacerda fight in the UFC Rio preliminary lineup on Sat. night (Oct. 11) at Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Unfortunately for Oliveira,
the fight was booked at bantamweight.
The bout will continue as scheduled, with the Brazilian coughing up 50 percent of his purse for the infraction, payable to Lacerda. In addition, Oliveira cannot weight more than 155 pounds on fight night, according to the latest update from Guilherme Cruz.
Why even bother with weight classes?
It would take a miracle for the one-time “Contender Series” contestant — winless under the UFC banner — to keep his job after today’s weigh ins blunder, which comes on the heels of a three-fight losing streak.
