Free agent projections are out, and so it is that time again — time for the annual “should the Rangers sign This Player” polls.
Today, we are looking at catcher J.T. Realmuto.
After starting his career with
the Marlins, Realmuto was traded to Philadelphia after the 2018 season for a package headed by Jorge Alfaro and Sixto Sanchez. He is a 35 year old who has been one of the best catchers in baseball over the past decade, but who has declined over the past few seasons, though has still been a major league caliber starting catcher.
Over at Fangraphs, Ben Clemens projects Realmuto at 2 years, $26 million as the #30 free agent in their top 50, while the median crowdsource has Realmuto at 2 years, $30 million. At ESPN, Kiley McDaniel has Realmuto at #25, and projects him at 2 years, $32 million. Keith Law ranks Realmuto at #18 on his list, and suggests he’ll get a two year deal.
We will use the median crowdsource projection.
Should the Rangers sign J.T. Realmuto to a 2 year, $30 million deal?
