After winning the inaugural Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, Bayern Munich opened their Bundesliga title defense with a resounding 6-0 win over RB Leipzig. Not to be outdone by Michael Olise’s brace or Luis Díaz highlight goal, Harry Kane swooped in for a second half hat trick to claim Man of the Match.
Bayern and SV Wehen Wiesbaden have
never played in a competitive or friendly match. Hailing from the third division, Wehen has played against Bayern II on a number of occasions, splitting the matches relatively evenly over the years.
According to FCBayern.com, Wehen has not been much of a giant killer in the DFB-Pokal.
The eight-time Hessian cup winners have mostly failed to progress beyond the first round of the cup in recent years. In that time they’ve largely come up against top-flight teams such as Mainz 05 (3-1 a.e.t, 2024), RB Leipzig (3-2, 2023) or Borussia Dortmund (3-0, 2021). The Wiesbaden club’s greatest success in Germany’s national cup competition came in the 2008/209 season, when they were narrowly knocked out 2-1 by Hamburger SV in the quarter-finals.
Odds: Bayern (-2500), Draw (+1800), Wehen (+3300)
Prediction: Bayern wins 7-1. Vincent Kompany will rest players who are dealing with some knocks but will otherwise go full force in the first half. On top of a back post tap-in from Jonah Kusi-Asare, Luis Díaz and Michael Olise will both have a brace at the break. Kompany will use all but one of his available subs at halftime, bringing in a hungry Lennart Karl who finds a brace of his own. Wehen is a decent offensive side and will find a goal somewhere in the second half to finally give the home crowd something to cheer about.
It’s Bayern time.
