Former Barcelona striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted that Lamine Yamal is the player he’s most excited to see play at World Cup 2026.
The 18-year-old is set to play at his first World Cup and is expected to be fit for the start of the tournament after a hamstring injury.
Ibrahimovic was asked to name a player he’s looking forward to watching and came up with the following response.
“Lamine Yamal is a special player. He’s a player you pay those very expensive tickets for, a player you come to the
stadium for, and thanks to whom you can simply enjoy the experience,” he told Fox Sports.
“On TV he looks special and he looks good. But up close he’s even more special.
“At 18, it’s incredible. Every time he touches the ball, you can see he’s different. His ball control, dribbling, goal-scoring ability… so all my hopes for a great game are on him.”
Spain and Yamal kick off their tournament on Monday against Cape Verde.
