Bayern Munich well and truly shook off their frustrations at having drawn two straight matches after the international break with their 6-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena. A hat-trick from Luis Díaz led the way for the German Rekordmeister and elsewhere, the goals came from Aleksandar Pavlović, Michael Olise and Harry Kane, on a night that was really one way traffic for Bayern, aside from Andrija Maksimović’s late consolation goal for Leipzig.
What’s even more refreshing from a Bayern
perspective is that it easily could have been more than six goals. Leipzig keeper Maarten Vandevoordt made a total of 11 saves from the 17 shots on target that Bayern registered, which summarizes the relentless pressure he was under in his goal throughout proceedings. Midway through the second half, he made a save to deny a knuckled effort from Tom Bischof, and the look of bemusement on his face from the way the ball travelled on route to goal perfectly summed up the way he must’ve been feeling for most of the evening.
While there was overall jubilation in and amongst the Bayern squad and on the touchline, it was noticeable that manager Vincent Kompany never really got up from his seat on the bench other than before the match, at halftime, walking back out for the second half, and after the full time whistle. It was Kompany’s assistants that did most of the traversing in Bayern’s technical area during the match, and cameras sporadically cut to the Belgian getting high fives from his coaching staff after most of Bayern’s goals.
Per information from Sky Sport (via @iMiaSanMia), Kompany is reportedly dealing with a hip problem, and that’s the reason he wasn’t really up roaming around his technical area during the win. As it was noticeable during the television coverage of the match, it was one of Kompany’s assistants, Aaron Danks that was doing most of the tactical shouts and gesticulating to the squad from the touchlines, as he’s done before last season when Kompany had his touchline ban.
Bayern’s board member for sport Max Eberl gave a brief update from the mixed zone on Kompany as the manager wasn’t doing media duties post-match due to his hip problem. “He has a hip injury, but he’s doing well. He’s in the dressing room,” Eberl said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
