It’s March, it has been for two weeks now, but it’s not officially March for hoop heads until the buzzer beaters start rolling in. And it’ll be hard to beat Arizona’s game-winner against Iowa State.
Both teams were brilliant down the stretch, trading baskets, with each unable to stop the other.
Iowa State tied the game at 80-80 on a deep three with 15.7 left on the clock. Arizona got the ball into Bradley, who got a two-point shot off with about 0.3 left on the clock and swished it, after which he was
mobbed by his teammates and some Arizona cheerleaders, too.
As we said earlier, Arizona has to be one of the national championship favorites. This team is just gifted and mentally tough. An upset is always possible, but it’d be huge if it happens.
On a related note, the Big 12 started its tournament with an LED court but junked it after some complaints and one groin injury that might be related. The conference installed traditional wood floors for Friday’s game and Saturday’s championship between Arizona and Houston, which snuffed out Kansas, 69-47. Yes, Darryn Peterson played 28 minutes, but only scored 14, and that on 3-11 from the floor.
