Jonathan Tah has made it clear that Bayern Munich cannot afford to rely on what they accomplished last season.
The defender believes the squad must recreate the mentality and intensity that helped make Bayern Munich one of the strongest teams in Europe, rather than assuming that last season’s success will automatically carry over.
“Our goal is to immediately build on the atmosphere we created last season. We had the feeling that we could beat any opponent. We worked hard to create that energy, with
extremely high standards in every training session and every game. Now we’re starting from scratch again. We know each other better, and we’ve celebrated successes together – but you have to build that energy all over again. And we’re fully aware of that: we can’t rest on the fact that everyone says we were one of the best teams. We have to work hard again to prove it, to recreate that atmosphere and that belief in ourselves. Luck is part of it, but you have to work hard to earn your luck,” Tah told FCBayern.com (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
That mentality could be crucial for Vincent Kompany’s squad.
Bayern Munich finished last season with major expectations surrounding them, but the new campaign brings a clean slate. Opponents will be motivated to knock them off their perch, while Bayern Munich must find the hunger to reach an even higher level.
Tah’s message is simple: last season does not matter if Bayern Munich are not willing to work for the next one.
The standards have been established. Now the squad has to maintain them.
