What a special weekend it’s been for the Kentucky Wildcats, which continued Sunday as the No. 4 volleyball Cats beat No. 3 Louisville 3-1 in front of a sold-out crowd at Historic Memorial Coliseum. The victory improved the Wildcats to 8-2 on the season.
Louisville came out strong, taking the first set 25-19 after jumping out to a 14-5 lead. Kentucky quickly responded with a thrilling 29-27 victory in the second set, which featured 16 ties and seven lead changes. Brooklyn DeLeye recorded eight kills
in the set as the Wildcats fought off two Louisville set points before closing it out.
Kentucky carried that momentum into the third set, winning 25-21 behind a strong performance from Kennedy Washington. The Wildcats then controlled the fourth set from start to finish, taking a 25-19 victory to clinch the match.
DeLeye led Kentucky with 22 kills and 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Morgan Gaerte added 20 kills, while Asia Thigpen had 14 and Washington finished with 10.
The victory snapped Louisville’s 10-match winning streak and gave Kentucky its fourth ranked win of the season. It was also the Wildcats’ first home victory over Louisville since 2019.
