Now that Will Stein has hired his offensive and defensive coordinators, we’ll start to see more transfer portal decisions being made by current Kentucky football players.
Unfortunately, Kentucky now appears
set to lose one of its more promising defensive players.
According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett
, outside linebacker Steven Soles is planning to enter the transfer portal, which officially opens on January 2.A 3-star edge prospect out of Tennessee in the class of 2024, Soles will be a sophomore in 2026 and have two years of eligibility remaining. He played the JACK position in Brad White’s defense, recording six sacks, two QB hits, and 12 QB hurries this season, according to Pro Football Focus. He did not have a sack over Kentucky’s final four games but still finished first on the team in that category.
Soles’ 78.9 PFF grade was fourth-best on the defense, so this would be a significant loss if he follows through with his plans to go portaling.
The good news for Will Stein and Co. is they still have three weeks to re-recruit Soles before he can officially go portaling.
