The San Francisco 49ers officially announced the signing of Naquan Jones off the Vikings’ practice squad. The team did the same with wide receiver Brandin Cooks.
Cornerback Jakob Robinson was released from the practice squad after the team signed defensive lineman Viliami Fekhoko Jr. That’s because defensive tackle CJ West was placed on injured reserve.
West’s injury is undisclosed at the moment. Kyle Shanahan will clarify it later Wednesday afternoon. He appeared out of shape in training camp, and
just didn’t have the same kind of power he did as a rookie against the run. If he’s been battling through an injury, that explains it.
The 49ers’ depth went from thin to non-existent, and that was before James Thompson Jr. sustained a high-ankle sprain.
With Thompson and West sidelined, Raheem Morris will rely on players who weren’t on the roster a week ago. San Francisco will likely need to elevate another defensive tackle from the practice squad since they only have three healthy bodies.
