The club recently announced the introduction of Legends’ Way outside the ground – recognising and commemorating some of Sunderland AFC’s club legends.
The club put out a shortlist of 43 names – and with only 14 stones available, it’s a tough choice to pick who should be honoured, and who should miss out!
So, Martin, Kelvin and Andrew got together to try to whittle that list down to 14 – and there’s some controversial calls, let us tell you!
- Seems like sacrilege, but will Charlie Hurley make the 14? Not if Kelvin has his way…
- What about Jimmy Thorpe, the keeper who lost his life playing for the club?
- Where do modern day names like Kevin Ball, Kevin Phillips, Thomas Sorensen and Niall Quinn sit in ‘legend’ terms?
- What about female stars Jill Scott, Steph Bannon and Steph Houghton?
- And Bob Murray was on the list… is that a mistake given the rest are players, and there aren’t even any managers on there?
- Have a listen to who we put in our 14 – and let us know if you agree (unlikely) or disagree (more likely!).
