According to Jay Glazer, the San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings recently had a trade agreement in place to bring wide receiver Jauan Jennings back to the Niners, but the deal fell through after Jennings made it clear he didn’t want to return to the team that drafted him.
Jennings, who was targeted twice this past week and caught two passes for 11 yards — bringing his season total to four receptions for 43 yards — reportedly likes the direction the Vikings are headed and wants to be part of
that organization.
Here’s what he posted on his Instagram after the Vikings suffered their first loss:
Here’s what Glazer had to say before kickoff on Sunday morning on Fox:
“Here’s a little scoopage that nobody knew. The 49ers, who traded for DeForest Buckner, also had trade terms worked out for Jauan Jennings, their former receiver, with the Vikings.
But it was contingent on him hopping on a FaceTime with Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch and saying, ‘OK, yeah, I wanna come back.’ But he didn’t. He actually said, no, I wanna stay here in Minnesota. Hey Vikings fans, he likes what you have going on over there.”
Jennings would give the Niners a big-bodied, gritty blocker you can trust on third and medium. The problem with Jennings is that everything shrinks when he’s on the field from a passing-game perspective.
But familiarity would have been key here, as the Niners, assuming whenever they agreed to this trade, were short at wideout and could plug and play Jennings in multiple roles.
Jennings got into a heated argument with Kyle Shanahan on the sideline in the first half of 2025. Jennings is no stranger when it comes to wearing his emotions on his sleeve. He had an incident with Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell.
We’ll see if any more details come out about this nixed trade, like the potential compensation. If Jennings is the only receiver the Niners are eyeing, or if it’s a player of similar value, then that’s the team telling us they are counting on some of the other injured wideouts to return to the lineup, including De’Zhaun Stribling.
