The UEFA Champions League (UCL) returns with the semi-final first legs, which is Matchday 15 for UCL Fantasy managers.
With only four teams remaining, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, and with Fantasy managers limited to six players per club, squad selection becomes even more important at this stage.
Heading into Matchday 15, I also have five free transfers to work with, which gives me some flexibility in how I shape my team, so I’ll be selecting players from different
teams to spread the risk.
Here is how my team looks heading into Matchday 16, with the deadline set for Tuesday at 8 pm GMT.
UCL Matchday 15 Team
Between the posts, I’m going with Matvei Safonov (€4.6m). He looks like a strong option for Tuesday, with Paris Saint-Germain keeping three clean sheets in a row in the Champions League. Bayern Munich will be a tough test, though.
It’s still a bit of a risk, but Safonov can make a lot of saves when under pressure. If he is fully fit after his recent knock, he could be a good different pick compared to more popular goalkeepers.
My backline feels bold, especially with the Hakimi and Marquinhos double-up.
I’m backing PSG to stay strong at home, while Gabriel stands out as a smart pick with his threat from set pieces against an Atletico side that can struggle in those situations.
Stanisic is the budget option that helps balance the squad without losing reliability.
I’m not too worried about doubling up on Arsenal defence away from home, as they are still one of the strongest defensive sides in Europe.
Gabriel Magalhaes (€5.8m) offers both clean sheet potential and a real goal threat, but Atletico Madrid at home is never an easy fixture, so a shutout is not guaranteed.
A PSG defensive triple-up is risky, but their recent form in big Champions League games makes it a move worth considering.
Achraf Hakimi (€6.0m) is the main attacking outlet from defence with his goals and assists, while Marquinhos (€5.1m) is the safer pick because he is more likely to start games regularly.
In midfield, I’ve gone with Michael Olise (€8.3m). He has been one of the most consistent attackers in the competition with 12 attacking returns and remains heavily involved in Bayern’s attack.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (€8.4m) as my captain is another key pick, He is PSG’s main attacking threat and comes in strong form after scoring twice recently, including a penalty.
I’m also sticking with Joshua Kimmich, who offers a different route for points through set-pieces and can also help move the ball forward. Even though PSG are favourites at home, Bayern’s scoring record means their midfielders still carry strong potential.
My attack is strong heading into this round. Ousmane Dembele (€9.6m) is an easy pick at home against Bayern Munich. He showed his explosive form last time out with a 14-point haul against Liverpool, and I’m backing him to deliver again.
Harry Kane (€10.9m) is almost impossible to ignore. If Bayern scores, he is likely to be involved, with over 50 goal contributions this season, showing his consistency and threat.
I’ve also gone with Julian Alvarez (€9.4m). He is on penalties for Atletico Madrid and comes in with strong form after three straight double-digit returns in the Champions League before his last blank.
On my bench, I have David Raya, who plays on Wednesday, giving me a solid backup option if needed.
Ademola Lookman is also there, but he is a doubt for this round, so I will be keeping an eye on his fitness. Alongside them are Declan Rice and Robin Le Normand, who also play on Wednesday, giving me extra cover if needed.
