It wasn’t long ago that WWE made cuts to its roster of talent that included heavy hits to the tag team division. The New Day were jettisoned for refusing to take a pay cut while the Motor City Machine Guns, the Wyatt Sicks stable, and Tonga Loa & JC Mateo of the MFTs were all released. Those are big hits!
Now, reports are making the rounds that the company is trying to rebuild the division, but there is some conflicting information going around.
First, False Finish reported they had sources saying
“WWE is currently in the process of trying to help rebuild the tag team division from within while also looking at the possibility of signing tag teams from other promotions in the near future.” However, Bryan Alvarez at F4WOnline noted to his X subscribers that “WWE does not really have much interest in outside tag teams at the time, but there are newly-made teams on TV like Miz & Kit that will remain tag teams, and a few teams in NXT likely called up soon as well.”
The current tag team scene features the likes of Logan Paul & Austin Theory holding the world tag team titles while R-Truth & Damian Priest are the reigning WWE tag team champions. That kind of says a lot about where they are right now. The Usos, The Street Profits, Los Americanos, Los Americanos Hermanos, The War Raiders, Fraxiom, and the aforementioned Miz & Wilson team round things out.
NXT has quite a few teams who could be called up, be it DarkState, Birthright, The Culling, Hank & Tank, OTM, and The Vanity Project’s Swipe Right squad. There are most definitely options there, and those options are certainly cheaper than the teams recently let go. Hey, it’s a TKO world.
Thoughts on all this?
