On Sunday morning, our Jimmy Morris posed an important question to the fanbase. Are Tennessee Titans fans done with Cam Ward? 72% of fans voted that Ward is NOT a franchise quarterback. The comments were a mixed bag of results.
Perhaps we should pose the question again following Sunday’s performance. It was arguably a career-best showing for Ward against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8. Everyone had the Titans getting blown out in this game following the Jeffery Simmons trade. Instead, the Titans traded
blows with a high-octane offense, losing 43-36 in overtime.
Cam Ward was excellent against an underrated Bengals defense. The sophomore No. 1 overall pick completed 26-of-40 passing attempts for 304 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. It was Ward’s first-ever 300 yard passing game.
It wasn’t a perfect showing for Ward. He lost a fumble on a ball-security issue that arose in the pocket. On a key 3rd-and-3 with under one minute remaining, Ward took a Dexter Lawrence sack that definitely took Joey Slye outside of field goal range. Had the Titans gained 5-10 yards on that rep, they were lining up for a game-winning attempt at the end of regulation.
It was still an excellent showing for Ward. He looked like a different quarterback. Ward looked comfortable, confident, and aggressive while operating Brian Daboll’s scheme.
The Titans now head into the Week 9 bye. Daboll and the Titans appeared to have figured something out versus the Bengals. The evidence was hinted at during the Cleveland Browns game. They need to continue building on both the mindset and results against a stout Jacksonville Jaguars defense in Week 10.
