The San Antonio Spurs rookie guard is brimming over with confidence.
“I think the coaching staff does a great job of instilling that confidence in the players and the vet. I think they trust me and see the work I put in and see I obviously at practice day to to day. What I can do on the floor, what I can bring to the table trust in them and show them the work I put in.”
From his seamless transition through college to the NBA to facing return from an injury, Harper remains steadfast in his abilities.
“It’s just my preparation. It’s something I’ve been big on forever since high school. How do I approach the game everyday? How do I find ways to get better everyday? How do I just go out there with the mindset that I gotta to do whatever I gotta to do to win? And I think that mindset carries over from everything though. Once I make a mistake or something like that, it’s all right, gotta go onto the next play, because we gotta do to win.”
Harper has put some of the best big men on his poster. In the last few games alone he’s gone dunked on Rudy Gobert, gone to to the rim against Zach Edey, and made a high angle shot while getting fouled by Jalen Suggs. The young player has more than confidence, he believes in himself and knows he can accomplish with a recognition very few players have.
“I play with no fear. I think game downhill. Seeing Edey a couple times, seeing if I could get a layup one or two. You know, once you get a layup over someone that tall who plays such good defense your confidence goes up. So I think just testing them having that confidence I can go to the rim against anybody.”
With Castle out with a hip flexor strain, Harper is getting meaningful time to develop and shine. As mentioned in a post game interview, the Spurs have yet to have a fully healthy line up of Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and Harper.
“It’s scary…pick your poison what are you going to do on the floor.”
Spurs are traveling to New Orleans to take on the Pelicans as part of their nine games in eighteen nights on the road.
