There might have been some small nagging concern regarding New York Giants star left tackle Andrew Thomas as camp opened, considering he was limited in OTAs and minicamp as the coaching staff managed his reps in the spring. Thomas missed the start of the 2025 season as he recovered from a Lisfranc injury, and the end of the season when he suffered a hamstring injury.
Now, Thomas is almost a “full-go” as camp opens and says that he feels
“They were kind of managing my reps today,” Thomas said when asked
if he’d get to a full workload at some point in camp. “Like, Bloom (offensive line coach Mike Bloomgren) just tells me when I’m in, when I’m out, and I just try to abide by that but I feel good. This is the best I’ve felt in a long time, so I’m excited for this season.”
There are several players on every roster that their team simply does not want to be without. For the Giants, there are very few on that list ahead of Thomas.
The Giants obviously want Thomas out there practicing, improving, and building continuity with his linemates. However, they also have to be smart and make sure he’s ready to start the season against the Dallas Cowboys.
The venue in West Virginia may help with that as well.
Thomas noted that, as a southerner, the weather at Greenbrier is downright chilly. After all, it dipped into the 50’s at night and only got up to a sunny 78 during practice, which is a brand new camp experience for the Georgia product.
“It’s amazing,” Thomas said. “I was talking to (offensive lineman) Jon (Runyan Jr.) and I was telling him that I don’t think I’ve ever been a part of a training camp where it’s this cold outside. I’m from the South. Even in Jersey, it gets humid, so I’m not complaining, I’m excited. It’s nice out, just going to continue getting better.”
Thomas certainly had a good workout in the second practice, with multiple battles against edge defender Abdul Carter.
Carter reportedly had a great practice notching two or three “sacks”, which gives Thomas more to work on and improve for the third practice.
“I’ve got to look at the film,” he said. “Just from a feel thing, and just stay more square in my set, trying to stretch the rushers a little bit more. I’ll watch film and see what I can do better.”
This is where health and availability really matter. Getting the reps against the Giants’ edge defenders, as well as with his linemates. The Giants haven’t had many opportunities to build continuity along their offensive line in recent years.
“Continuity is everything,” Thomas said. “Plus up front, every snap we get, just working through communication and each rep we just get tighter knit and we’ll perform better in the game.”
That unit now includes 10th overall pick Sisi Mauigoa, who got the ‘rookie duty’ of running around and firing up the crowd in attendance as well as working as the Giants’ starting right guard.
Thomas thought Mauigoa did a good job in both endeavors, both interacting with the fans and in his work on the field.
“To be a rookie, like he’s in tune to his assignments,” Thomas said. “He has really good technique. Obviously, he has the physical traits. It’s been exciting to see him put it together so far.
“He (Mauigoa) definitely has confidence. Our whole offensive line is just full of personality. He’s done a great job. Like you said, the confidence that he has, you can see it on the field, just the energy he plays with and just going out there attacking, the effort that he plays with to be such a young guy. A lot of times you come out here, you’re thinking a lot when you’re a rookie just trying to understand the speed. But you can see him flying off the ball, he’s excited to get after it.”
The Giants’ offensive line was solid — even good — in 2025. It sounds like Thomas thinks there’s even more reason to be excited for 2026.
