Today, NJ/NY Gotham FC and Angel City FC have announced that both clubs have agreed on a trade for midfielder Nealy Martin. In exchange, Gotham will receive $85,000 in intra-league transfer funds from ACFC.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to join Angel City,” said Martin. “This club is building something really special, and I am beyond excited to give everything I have to LA. Every time I have played at BMO Stadium, I have been so impressed by the fans and atmosphere, so I look forward to experiencing
it as an Angel City player.”
“We are very happy to welcome Nealy to Angel City,” said ACFC Sporting Director Mark Parsons. “Nealy is a NWSL champion and brings great character and leadership to our team. Nealy’s quality on the ball, ability to dictate play, and relentless work defensively will be important contributions to our style of play. We are looking forward to her joining Alex and the squad.’’
Martin put her name in the history books when she became the first field player to step in as goalkeeper during an NWSL playoff match, helping Gotham close out the 2023 NWSL Championship against Seattle Reign.
“More than anything I want to thank the Gotham community for taking a chance and believing in me during my time here,” Martin said. “I gave my heart and soul to this club, and a piece of me will always remain in NJ/NY. It would’ve taken something very special for me to consider leaving this place, and I have found that in Angel City. As I leave excited for this new chapter with LA, my heart is so full of gratitude for every moment here.”
“Nealy has been a consummate professional on and off the field during her time with Gotham FC, and we want to thank her for everything she has contributed to the club,” said Yael Averbuch West, the general manager and head of soccer operations for Gotham FC. “We support Nealy and her wishes to move on, and we wish her nothing but the best in this next step of her career.”
In January, Martin earned her first ever USWNT call-up.
