Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett had another fantastic performance against the Las Vegas Raiders, where he recorded three sacks, four tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles. This followed a four-sack
performance against the Baltimore Ravens and, three weeks earlier, a five-sack outing against the New England Patriots. He now has 18 sacks on the season and is inching closer to the NFL record of 22.5 sacks. Should he record five sacks over the next six games to break this record, it will be nearly impossible for the NFL awards voters not to give him Defensive Player of the Year.
It’s hard to name another modern-era Brown who has been as consistently dominant as Myles Garrett or who has forced opponents to adjust their game plans for Cleveland’s defense the way he has.
One player that could also fall into this category is Hall of Famer Joe Thomas. His durability and consistency with the Browns would put him first on the all-time list for many. Nevertheless, earning another Defensive Player of the Year award and surpassing this NFL record would virtually guarantee Garrett’s eventual induction into the Hall of Fame. Given this level of dominance, history will look kindly upon Garrett’s career and may put him a step above Thomas.
Let me know what you think in the comments – Is Myles Garrett the greatest Cleveland Brown of this 21st century?
