Ben Metcalf: 6/10
No chance with either goal, the first that was poked past him from short range, the second deflected in from a cross and wasn’t particularly busy the rest of the night. Managed to get something on a couple
of scrambles but rarely tested.
Jenson Jones: 6/10
Caught out of position a couple of times but a solid enough game and looked to get forward whenever the opportunity arose.
Ben Kindon: 6/10
A steady presence at the back, maybe not aggressive enough with Ipswich’s first goal with the ball bobbling through to an unmarked striker.
Joe Neild: 6/10
Like Kindon he was steady in the heart of defence but was unfortunate to steer a cross into his own net late on following an Ipswich cross.
Dennis Cirkin: 6/10
Looked a little rusty at times, with some simple passing going astray and letting the right winger get the run on him but improved as the half went on. Never looked to attack and the only time he got in a dangerous position was when he stole the ball in the opposition box from a corner and forced a block.
Ben Middlemas (C): 7/10
Typically assured performance in midfield, linking the defence and attack. Did have a bit of a moment in the first half when he got himself into trouble deep into his own half and ended up giving away a corner.
Jaydon Jones: 8/10
Was really good in midfield alongside his brother in midfield, using the ball well and showed quick feet to get away from the opposition press. Scored a deserved goal after he latched onto the end of Lightfoot’s pullback.
Harrison Jones: 8/10
Scored the opening goal after Geragusian picked him out and was always involved in attack, linking up play and finding space in dangerous areas.
Jack Whittaker: 7/10
Had started really well, playing through balls for both Tutierov and Geragusian to run in on goal and then fired a shot just over himself but picked up a knock and had to go off after only 20 minutes.
Timur Tutierov: 8/10
Caused problems all night for the Ipswich defence, unfortunately only poor finishing stopped him scoring more than the one he did get. Could easily have had four or five but did get one after cutting inside and curling past the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.
Finn Geragusian: 7/10
Held the ball up well, getting an assist for the first goal by holding it up for Harrison Jones. Really should have scored himself from close range after the break but couldn’t quite poke it over the line.
Substitutes
Ethan Moore: 6/10
Tried to be positive whenever he got the ball but often ran the ball out attempting to get around his full back, maybe trying a bit too hard following his injury. Did get an assist though after a throughball to Waters for the fourth.
Archie Lightfoot: 7/10
Came on at left back and settled in straight away, didn’t have as many issues with the Ipswich right winger as Cirkin did and got forward to great effect. Got one assist after picking out Jaydon Jones but almost got one just before that after a similar ball found Harrison Jones, that shot was saved however.
Jake Waters: 6/10
Didn’t see a lot of the ball after coming on for Geragusian but got his first goal in a very long time following injury, breaking the offside trap and finishing past the goalkeeper from Moore’s ball.
Rhys Walsh: 6/10
A late change for Tutierov.
Man of the Match: Jaydon Jones
Ran close by his brother and Tutierov but my man of the match is Jaydon Jones. Scored a well taken goal after Lightfoot picked him out but it was good movement by Jones to get himself into that space. Used the ball well all night and looks to be a growing influence in the under 21 side.
